Swimming Coach Gary Grey

Diving Coach Thea Cox

Swimming Practice Schedule:
Practices are  held Monday through Friday and will begin on Monday, June 11th and continue through the last week of July.  Swimmers are grouped and practice approximately according to age.  Coaches can and do make adjustments in terms of what swimmers swim in which practice based upon skills, and competitive swimming experience.  It is not unusual for an “8 & Under” to practice with the older group of swimmers with the coach’s approval

8:00 - 9:00 a.m. Swimmers 11 years of age and older
9:00 - 9:45 a.m. Swimmers 10 years of age and younger

**SPECIAL NOTE: Swim Team members in the 13-15 Age-Group (younger swimmers by coache's invitation) are invited to become members of our "BREAKFAST CLUB"; attend a 7:00 - 8:00 a.m. Special Practice designated for this age-group.  There are several advantages to attending this workout:

•Small numbers in each workout lane.

•Workouts specificaly suited to your age and skills.

•A chance to experience beautiful and quiet mornings.

THE S.P.T.C. SWIM TEAM PHILOSOPHY

•Our primary goal is to provide a competitive swimming experience for children at the SPTC that is enjoyable, educational, and fun.  We work especially hard to maintain the "fun" aspect of the program.

•We strongly believe that all swimmers, regardless of age, must learn how to "swim well" before they can "swim fast".  With this in mind, our instructional program is designed and constructed to facilitate this concept. Parents will find that a large percentage of our swimmers have "evolved" from our instructional program.  We take great pride in this aspect of our program.  We encourage parents to consider taking advantage of our program offerings to reach this goal.  Two Instructional Classes to consider that address the "learning" part of competitive swimming are as follows:

Competitive Stroke Class: This is where the four competitive strokes are taught and learned.  Specific stroke instruction is given on the Crawl, Backstroke, Butterfly, and Breaststroke.  The primary goal of this particular group is learn and refine all four of the competitive strokes. Complete details on this class offering can be found under the Instructional Swimming Program tab on this website.

•The "Tool Box":   This summer we are again providing a special session for swimmers on the SPTC swim team.  We've labeled these sessions "The Tool-Box"; "tool-box" in that we address the other "tools" that need to be learned beyond the basic strokes.  These sessions will be held from 9:00-10:00 each Friday morning beginning Friday, June 16th.  Each session is 1-hour long and we will provide specific instruction on the skills that we consider to be basic "Tools/Skills"  that are needed to be successful in competitive swimming. IF your swimmer is new to competive swimming, this class becomes almost a "must" to  take part in.  Skills covered include starts and turns for all the competitive strokes including the crawl and backstroke tumble turn, as well as the racing dive, and the all-important use of the Dolphin Kick.
